Communication Conflicts (ONLINE)

The purpose of this course is to expose the participants to the difficulties of communicational processes in the interpreting field. This class takes a look at such conflicts from the basis of theories that will allow the interpreter to identify communication obstacles and analyze potential interventions from different perspectives that may be applied to the resolution of conflicts arising from the interpreting work.

WORKING WITH VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (ONLINE)

This course will introduce interpreters to issues of domestic violence from cross-cultural perspectives and will explore this social problem from a human rights perspective. This course will evaluate aspects of forms of violence and abuse in diverse cultures, which include, but are not limited to, Mexico and the United States, as well as immigrant and minority communities in the U.S.. The various ways in which women are abused will be discussed in an effort to introduce students to patterns of abuse from a global perspective.

This course will provide interpreters tools to perform their job in the court with clients involved in cases of domestic violence. Participants will have the opportunity to learn techniques about detachment.
